A search for fishermen along one Brazil’s longest rivers turned into something unexpected—quiet encounters, fleeting doubts, and a series of raw, beautiful moments in a village time almost forgot. What started with uncertainty became a day of light, generosity, and photographic treasure you couldn't script if you tried.
I know the story is more about the fishermen but the photo of the girl and the shadow at the yellow wall is just amazing. It’s like you’ve photographed her body but at the same time you are seeing her soul dancing at the wall. I think this is a portfolio level photograph.
Another wonderful series Mitchel. Love the image of the girl with the shadow of the other girl on the wall. How is the heat, will it get a bit cooler in winter, July, August etc.?
I appreciate your honesty about your doubts and the wonderful turn around from the shy local. You have an eye with the camera and a WAY with the words, my friend. From the beginning you have been teaching us how the camera can be a lens into the lives of others. What I want to know is...do you speak Portuguese? You must. Good on you. Surely must make all the travel easier to speak the local language. So happy I found you so many years ago.Keep us with you. Love, Uma
Thank you for your kind words, Uma. :) Yes, I speak some basic Portuguese now. Conversational. And when I'm lost, I do improvised Spanish (I'm pretty fluent in Spanish).
I watched your vid about using Substack instead of IG. It doesn’t disappoint and I truly enjoyed the pics and story about this quaint town
I didn't realise you're here on Substack till I saw this, Mitchell.
There's a peace in the pictures you've taken of Catarino; intent on the job at hand and doing it to his best.
I only told the whole world about it everywhere I could. :P Thanks for checking it out and I hope you come back for more photo stories. :)
😀 In my defense though, I have been told I'm out of the world 🤣
hehe

Hey, that's awesome of you to say. I don't feel it's THAT good, but it was a nice situation for sure. :)

Thank you! Where we are now, it's MUCH cooler. This was all in the outback, interior, so it gets drier, but sometimes VERY hot!
Just wow. Great place and pics! Love remote travels like this ... making me restless.
Great to hear that! :)
Strikingly vivid and honest Mitchell. I feel and see your love for this country deepening. Seeking successfully perhaps? 👍
Yeh, maybe, hehe.
