I never planned to photograph fishermen in Tutóia, a quiet town on the edge of Brazil’s vast Parnaíba Delta—but at dawn, drawn by the shimmer of nets and the rhythm of the sea, I stumbled upon a centuries-old fishing ritual that felt like stepping into another time.
I love this topic, Mitchell. I love the water and feel at home by the sea. The story and the characters felt so rugged and comforting at the same time. Just lovely.
Great article Mitchell. I am a fisherman myself (spearfishing; the best hobby) so I know exactly what you mean and fully agree. Thank you for sharing this. All images are great and show how the weather and light were drastically changing. As for your last image; this is by far my favourite. May I ask what was the FOV? There is a very nice size perspective/ difference between the kid and the birds.
I mean what lens did you use. It’s not long enough as there is a distance between the birds and the boy and not wide enough as their size is still comparable.
Great stuff Mitch. Just one question. I'm making a new website at the moment to showcase my images and put myself in a better position on the 'map', so to speak. I'm tired of Zenfolio - been with them for over 12 years and nothing has changed, so time for a change. I jumped on your website to get some ideas (he he), and noticed that you haven't put any new material up for a while. It's a shame, cause it looks great there and your work is powerful. My question - do you not see a website as a good platform for showcasing one's work, or advertising what you do? Will all of your images now go on this new platform? Perhaps you have another website that I couldn't find?
You know, I'm in the process of updating things right now. I think a website definitely has a place, but, perhaps a little more targeted. I'll make my website more for brands to see specific kind of work, I think. Before it was for the general public, now, since the general public hardly visits these, I think it'll be even more of a portfolio and more targeted.
This article is a masterclass on how to shot photos with a high sun. Great story!!

They were definitely comforting and soft in terms of their demeanor. :)

What do you mean by FOV? I shut down the aperture quite a lot. I saw those birds and quickly reacted. :)

Aaaa, 24-70 :) Somewhat zoomed in. Actually, just checked and its 24mm. The birds were actually REALLY pretty much over our heads. :)
Ok that’s why the perspective is so good. Thank you for you reply and for sharing your experience 🙏

Great narrative. Thank you!
