What began as a quick overnight stop turned into an unforgettable encounter with Brazil’s vibrant world of street performance. On International Women’s Day, a simple campground transformed into a stage for clowns, fire dancers, and poetic acts that spoke of resilience, dignity, and freedom. Through the eyes of a girl dad and photographer, this story captures a night of creative expression, connection, and the kind of encounters that make travel feel meaningful.
Thanks for sharing your seemingly ordinary stay at a campground, turned into a visit to an extraordinary circus. This is the kind of event that is all too easy to miss in the hustle and bustle to stay on schedule. I greatly enjoyed your photos and description and am wondering what your daughter thought of the event.
She liked parts of it, but thought it was strange, haha. She was expecting the regular clowns and just funny stuff. I translated to her parts which I thought were empowering, but she's just turned 11 and not having the difficulties (thankfully) that some of the performers had, I just want her to be appreciative.
I love the beautiful closing comments. And as usually, excellent photos! The lighting feels perfect for the subject matter. Thanks Mitch, for stretching a little bit farther after carnival.
Wow - gorgeous images Mitch, especially the first and the last one. I also love this platform. When I put blogs up now on my website, hardly anybody reads them. I'm thinking of putting the next one up on here.
Man, there is something so charming to your photos…!
Thank man! :)
Good pictures, even better text. I'm in love with your Substack.
Haha! Yeh, it was more of an experience than a great photo shoot. Unexpected really. And thank you! :)
Thanks for sharing. A good step beyond "street photography."
I love your philosophy on empathy and understanding. The key to a better world is Love.
Thank you for sharing. If only people all over the world tried to see the world as you see it!

Thanks for the insightful reply. I will use your approach to explaining things to my granddaughter the same way when viewing "strange" things.

Thank you, Juliette! :) Seems like Semana Santa is coming up and I have some ideas for that too. Hehe.
I can't wait to see that! I would love to be back in Colombia right now for Semana Santa.

I'm liking it a lot so far. :)
